KIP DEVILLE BECOMES ALL-TIME LEADING OKLAHOMA-BRED WITH WIN IN BREEDERS’ CUP MILE The Breeders’ Cup World Championships were featured October 26-27 via simulcast at Remington Park and history was made in the $2 Million NetJets Breeders’ Cup Mile as Kip Deville established a new earnings standard for accredited Oklahoma-bred Thoroughbreds.
A turf-running specialist, who excels at the one mile distance, Kip Deville was supplemented to the Breeders’ Cup Mile for $300,000. The decision proved to be worth every penny. The 4-year-old son of Kipling from the Encino mare Klondike Kaytie, Kip Deville ran a near perfect race to become a Breeders’ Cup Champion, winning the Mile on the soft turf at Monmouth Park in New Jersey over Excellent Art. The victory makes him the first accredited Oklahoma-bred to win a Breeders’ Cup race.
Kip Deville broke his maiden at Remington Park in Oklahoma City on November 14, 2005 under local jockey Justin Shepherd. He was sold after winning a couple of stakes races at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, Texas in 2006, moving on to a national stakes racing career with multiple graded wins. Originally trained by Mike Neatherlin, Kip Deville is now in the stable of Richard Dutrow, Jr.
Kip Deville earned $1,080,000 for the win in the Breeders’ Cup Mile making him the richest accredited Oklahoma-bred of all-time, passing the legendary Clever Trevor.
When Kip Deville ran second in the Woodbine Mile in September, he became just the third accredited Oklahoma-bred to become a millionaire. With his win in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, Kip Deville becomes the first accredited Oklahoma-bred to go over $2 Million in earnings. His career total now stands at $2,094,222.
