MEDICATION RULES CHANGES IN EFFECT
A May 9, 2006 press release from the OHRC reads as follows:
Effective immediately, the recently proposed changes in the equine drug testing rules are effective in emergency status.
The most notable change in the rules of racing is what will become known as the "24 hour rule." Basically, allowing the treatment of the equine athlete with modern therapeutic medications 24 hours prior to post time. OHRC Commission Approved Threshold Levels in scrum samples will now apply in post race testing.
The emergency rules are posted on the commissions website at www.ohrc.org.
