AUGUST 23 SLATED FOR SECOND OK CITY SUMMER YEARLING SALE

The Oklahoma City Summer Thoroughbred Yearling Sale is scheduled for Saturday,
August 23, 2008, at the Oklahoma City State Fairgrounds. The premier sale for
Oklahoma-bred Thoroughbred yearlings expects to offer twice as many horses in
the sale’s second year.

“The response this year is so far ahead of last year. We’re going to be able to offer such
quality.” said Terri Carter, sales manager. “With Oklahoma-bred maidens running for
$30,000, racing in our state now demands this type of sale,” Carter said.

“Second year sales are always much stronger and our average sales price of $8,360 last
year was well above what thoroughbred yearlings had been averaging at area sales. I
can’t wait to see what the average is this year. The owners obviously know the draw of a
second year sale,” Carter continued.

The sale will again offer radiographs and endoscopic exams on all entries. “Even the
owner who really wants to keep and race his horse can test the market and be better
prepared to race with the information offered with these tests,” said Dr. Joe Carter.

With the sale in August now is the time to start prepping the yearlings. “The horses that
were in good flesh at last year’s sale sold extremely well. These yearlings need to be
where you can feel the ribs, but not see them.” Dr. Carter

Carter said the Harlan’s Holiday filly that topped the inaugural sale at $50,000 was that
type of filly. “She was in perfect condition and she proved it in the sales ring. I really
believe that is the secret to getting the best sale price.” he said.

The sale is scheduled for opening weekend for Remington Park Racetrack. “It will be the
perfect weekend for owners and trainers. They can purchase a yearling in the morning
and scout races for it Saturday night,” Carter said. There will also be free steak dinners
for all trainers and a reception and preview before the races on Friday night.

“The stock market is more than scary right now, but the thoroughbred market in
Oklahoma is really exciting.” Carter said.
