WILL ROGERS DOWNS HOLDS ALL OKLAHOMA BRED DAY

It was a beautiful day on May 17th with a very good crowd who witnessed the second running of two overnight stakes were contested at the Claremore track. The races were for Oklahoma Bred horses with horses nominated to the Oklahoma Classics Program preferred. In the Filly and Mare race a total of 17 horses nominated to the race with 12 of those being in the Classics program and in the Colt and Gelding race 24 nominated with 18 Classics horses. Will Rogers Downs also worked with the TRAO and the OHRC and was able to offer all of the races that day for Oklahoma Breds

The OTA added $5,000 to each of the two above races for Classics horses and there was an additional $5,000 in Oklahoma Bred money in the purse.

CHEROKEE – WILL ROGERS DOWNS CLASSIC

A field of 7 Oklahoma Bred horses contested the stakes race. It was a very strong field of horses including three previous stakes winners. Midsummer Magic, won the race over a fast closing Reel Chrome, with Reel Sweet Talker third. Midsummer Magic is owned by the partnership of J. Alexander, N. Stockseth and D.K. Von Hemel. She was ridden by Don Pettinger and trained by Donnie Von Hemel. The race was run in 1:09.14 after early fast fractions. The breeder of the filly was Diamond G. Ranch.

O.T.A CLASSIC

The OTA Classic also had a field of 7 after two early mornings scratches. The filed for the race was very strong and provided a very competitive race. Marq French was the winner in a very fast time of 1:08.1. Marq French is a owned by Van and Margie French of McAlester, Oklahoma, and was also bred by the French’s. Don Pettinger was also the winning rider and Donnie Von Hemel the winning trainer. Evening Reward was second and Explosive Okie ran third.
