The Oklahoma Stallions Stakes program began with the 2007 breeding season for foals of 2008. The purpose of the program is to encourage breeders to breed to Oklahoma Bred accredited stallions. The races from that first year will be run in the Fall of 2010 at Remington Park and in the Spring of 2011 at Will Rogers Downs. Each series will consist of two races for fillies and two races for colts, one each year. To be eligible to participate in the races a foal must be from the Nominated Stallions for the year of breeding. All foals of the Stallions are eligible, but only Ok. Bred accredited horses will compete for the Oklahoma Bred added money funds. Each year a new series will begin with nominated horses for that years breeding season. Stallions will nominate by Feb 1st each year at fees as listed below.
The cost to nominate a foal will be $150 which will be due November 1st of their weanling year. If not nominated at that time penalty payments may be made at various times until entry.
The timing of the races and the distances will be announced early enough to provide sufficient time to prepare eligible horses. If the program grows sufficiently additional races may be added.
The fees to nominate a stallion are by Feb 1st each breeding season, for s stallion standing for a stud fee of $1,250 or more – the fee is $1,250. For a stallion with a stud fee of less than $1,250 the fee will be $750. These fees apply to advertised fees for the stallion. All stallions with a Private Fee listing will pay $750.
In addition to Oklahoma Bred awards for stallion owners, (subject to OHRC approval each year), a Premium award of $5,000 for each race has been established and will paid to stallions based upon placement of their foals in each race. At least 90% of all stallion and foal nominating fees will go to Stallion Stakes races.
