About UsEstablished and first incorporated in 1958 as the "Sooner State Thoroughbred Breeders Association, today's OTA has the same underlying mission and purpose, which simply stated is "to advertise, foster and promote the Thoroughbred horse industry in the state of Oklahoma. Governed by the statutes of Oklahoma, the articles of incorporation, and the Association By-Laws, the Oklahoma Thoroughbred Association is a membership association, whereby interested thoroughbred enthusiasts have banded together to further their interests, as well as the public interest in the Thoroughbred industry. The Association is directed by horsemen from across the state, all with diverse interests and backgrounds. The members benefit from having an association that continually works to promote and protect the industry in which they have a vested interest, as well as keeping them enlightened of industry happenings at both the state and national levels.
The OTA publishes a monthly magazine "The Homestretch" which is dedicated to providing its membership with industry news, promoting the state's breeding industry, educating horsemen, and entertaining horse enthusiasts. The Association sponsors and organizes many events and activities for its members, including the Annual Awards Banquet & Auction, the Ran Ricks Memorial Golf Tournament, Annual Membership Meeting, and an annual Stallion Service Auction providing its members an The OTA also is the founder of the Oklahoma Classics program, which is the only state championship day of racing for Oklahoma-Bred Thoroughbreds. From a single day of championship racing at its inception, the Oklahoma Classics program has grown into a weekend-long event hosting numerous horse related events.
While 'advertising, fostering and promoting' the industry within the state, the Oklahoma Thoroughbred Association, has successfully served Oklahoma's Thoroughbred owners and breeders for more than 40 years
